BEST Award Winner
  • We are very proud to be the 2011 Winner of the BEST Practices for Sustainability Contest for our business size catagory. This is put on by the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, decided by a panel of local expert judges, and awarded by Mayor Sam Adams.
  • As part of Barbur Storage's sustainability goals, our Solar Panels help  make clean renewable and sustainable energy a reality while also powering our facility. Our 108 rooftop solar panels produce up to 23.8 kw/hour at full capacity. Barbur Storage has a "net metering" system which sells power back to the grid when production exceeds our needs. By providing solar power we are striving to limit our carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emmissions. See our "real-time" production by clicking on the link: Real Time Solar Report (above).
  • We support Portland General Electric's "Clean Wind Renewable Future" power program for clean, renewable, sustainable power. With this program, any power we pay for is 100% wind from the Klondike II wind farm in Oregon.
  • We have a "Box Exchange" where customers can store used moving boxes in good condition. We offer them free of charge to customers needing boxes, extending boxes' lives before recycling.
  • We are frequent contributors to our local schools. We support Markham and Stephenson Elementary School's annual fund raising auctions. We donate to Wilson High School and Burlingame Pre-School.
  • We make a local donation for every new move-in tenant we acquire, they are asked to select from our chosen charities for that year. 2011 we donated over $1500 to: American Cancer Society/Relay for Life, Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Neighborhood House, Willamette Riverkeepers. Albertina Kerr.
  • Recycling of all types of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum, and tin containers is also available to customers. We buy Made in Oregon boxes and recycled content office paper goods.
  • We put on an annual, no cost, community Shredding/Paper Recycling Event.
  • Barbur Storage is certified in the Recycle At Work program. We are proud to do our part to create a healthy future for Portland. RAW businesses demonstrate excellence in waste reduction, recycling and buying environmentally preferred products.
